Addictive Behavior

It does seem that some people are more likely to fall into addiction than others. It is also common for individuals to describe themselves or other as having an addictive personality. If such personalities exist then does this mean that the culprit in addiction is not alcohol or drugs but instead just the people who use them? Does this also mean that it is only those who have such a personality who are at risk of addiction? If some people are more likely to become addicts this might also mean… Continue

Alcoholism

Alcoholism. Defined as a mental disfunction in the brain. In my theory, Alcoholism is directly connected to addictive behaviors that stem from depression, anxiety and panic disorders which stems from chemical imbalances in the brain. Most alcoholics and addicts in my experience appear to suffer with one or more of these mental conditions. Mental conditions therefore are chemical imbalances. I welcome your input on this theory :)

Custom Fit Total Knee Surgery

About Custom Fit Total Knee Replacement Surgery

Custom Fit Total Knee Replacement Surgery is the newest technology in total knee replacement. The process starts several weeks before your surgery with a MRI scan. The MRI makes precise measurements of your knee. Computer software at the OtisMed Company transforms that MRI image into a 3-D model of your arthritic knee and then virtually corrects any deformity to return the knee to its pre-arthritic state. A computerized 3-D image of the…

More conflict on the way for vaccines.

Now that the controversy caused by the fraudulent researcher Andrew Wakefield has settled, we have begun to deal with the consequences. The measles outbreak in Swansea was caused by too few children and young adults being unprotected. The enormous effort to provide 75,000 ‘emergency’ vaccinations in that city’s area alone has stopped the outbreak, but still another 30,000 children in Wales have had no vaccination and overall in the UK there could be a million. But at least the…

Is Des Spence right about AF? Is AF case finding and anticoagulation bad medicine?

I often read Des Spence's piece in the print journal and last week he wrote about AF.

http://www.bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f4910

His argument is that AF case finding and anticoagulation is bad medicine. Mine is that in an average patient on a GP list the stroke risk per year is is 0 or close to because of the demographics and the way that the statistics of risk play out ( a high risk patient with AF has a stroke risk of about 5%…

Psoriasis Model.. Can skin diseases present internally??

Many years ago I remember caring for a patient with malignant Psoriasis. We had to treat the patient in the same manner as 3rd degree burns because his whole body was affected and the pictures on the Main Page reminded me of this case.

I was intrigued to know if this is the correct terminology for severe psoriasis, and it is interesting to note that research does show some association of Psoriasis and malignancies especially melanoma.

I found a very interesting Power…

Dial a Mobile Doctor Concept proving to be a popular alternative to queuing in outpatient departments and ED

The old fashioned concept of family doctors making house calls was phased out many decades ago in Australia.

Doctors surgeries cannot cope with the appointment schedule and the waiting list could be days ahead

This means patients who have a requirement for immediate attention have no alternative other than to

attend the local hospital or an emergency centre attached to the hospital in country areas.

Medical Centres operating 24/7, with no appointment…
