One-day workshop on Understanding Cochrane systematic reviews on Diagnostic Test accuracy

Chrstian Medical College, Vellore

Jan 21, 2012

This is a one-day workshop run by South Asian Cochrane Centre for Cochrane review authors and healthcare professionals who are planning to do Cochrane diagnostic test accuracy review. The objective of the workshop is to make you understand how to prepare a Systematic Review on Diagnostic Test Accuracy.

Learning objectives

  1. To provide training in analytical techniques for Cochrane Diagnostic Test Accuracy reviews. There will be sessions covering basic methods of meta-analysis, the structure of RevMan5, mixed models for diagnostic meta-analysis and investigating heterogeneity and making test comparisons.
  2. There will also be practical sessions throughout the day to practise with participants’ own data so author teams should have data ready extracted in order to benefit from this.
  3. Will focus on the completion of a title registration form for each participating author or author group. Authors will gain an understanding of how tests can be evaluated and how test accuracy contributes to this evaluation, the components of a test accuracy question and the different designs of studies measuring test accuracy.
  4. To provide training in study design, quality assessment, searching and statistical analysis to such a level to enable the review team to write the protocol for their Cochrane Review.
  5. Learning about the various study designs used to evaluate diagnostic test accuracy, and to compare tests, as well as the variety of biases to which they are susceptible. Review teams will work on operationalising the QUADAS quality assessment criteria for their own review.
  6. Searching for test accuracy studies will be used to illustrate a range of approaches to tackle the complexity of test accuracy searches, and there will be discussion of how TSCs and how authors can work in partnership.
