Doctor snaps photo of baby born in amniotic sac

A Greek doctor has photographed an extremely rare moment during a birth, showing a baby still encased inside the amniotic sac after it has been removed from the mother's body.

Dr Aris Tsigris published the photo of the newborn on his Facebook page on March 12 after delivering the baby via caesarean section in Amarousion, north of Athens.

Dr Tsigris said that the baby did not even realise it had been born yet.

Typically the amniotic sac breaks on its own during birth, which is commonly referred to as a mother's "water breaking".

Dr Tsigris said the chance of the amniotic sac remaining completely intact after birth was "ultra rare" and he was left "breathless" by the sight of the newborn.

The doctor said there was no risk to the baby as it was still feeding off the placenta and would begin to breathe as soon as the sac was broken.

Dr Aris Tsigris said he was left "breathless" by the sight.

Amazing.Thaks for sharing.

You're welcome Dr. Sharma.

And thanks also to Dr. Tsigris for sharing this to us.

Thanks Amsa Khan for your reply and info.

So you're one of the lucky ones born in caul/viel.

My regards to you.

God bless!

So sad..., they have not captured your also "for the record" rare birth condition then.

We should have pictures of caul/angel birth both in CS and NSD now, if only there have been a camera then.

What a loss to our medical world.

And I guess the legend in one way or another has a little truth in it, yours, being lucky, because you have become a good doctor now.

Regards to you and your loveones.

Good luck on your career Doc.

God bless you!

Yes, I know you'll make a difference someday because you've got a good heart !

Regards and May our Good Lord bless you always!

Thanks for sharing.

amazing

Amsa, I knew that you were very special..

In the old traditions of certain parts of Europe, a caul is highly prized by sailors who see it as a sign of goodluck and a kind of charm that can save them from drowning and other forms of disasters while at sea. In medieval Europe, mothers sold the cauls of their children to sailors for huge sums of money. For some others, it is used in preparing special charms and potions.

While researching some time ago, I came across this picture also..
